We are looking for a full time General Manager – Operations to join our team!

Focus

The General Manager – Operations will be the over-arching manager of the Harvest, Shipping & Receiving, Inventory, Food Safety, and OH&S departments at our state of the art hydroponic lettuce growing facility near Lethbridge, AB. At the heart of the operation is our team members, and you will be responsible for developing a positive work culture and motivate our leaders and their teams to live our company values and achieve business and operational objectives. This will be accomplished by developing, implementing, and ensuring that operational standards are upheld and that processes and communications flow effectively across all areas of responsibility.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead the operational teams to harvest our lettuce products and achieve a sales packing plan to our defined quality standards
  • Lead the Shipping & Receiving team to manage post-harvest stocks and to ensure that loading plans are accurately developed and followed for both inbound and outbound products
  • Responsible for accurate inventory management of all stocks at the facility and coordination with the central procurement teams
  • Oversee the Food Safety and OH&S roles to ensure compliance with the Group standards and national & provincial regulations, to obtain approval of third party audits or by any client or government entity
  • Ensure the supply of consumables in a timely manner, seeking best prices, quality and service
  • Promote a culture of teamwork and cross-departmental efficiency
  • Control and mediate day to day operational challenges
  • Ensure that the leaders of each department have the necessary tools and equipment to carry out their activities
  • Drive the leaders of each department to be accountable for the success of their teams and develop a constructive an collaborative culture across all departments and at all levels
  • Plan, implement and oversee operational processes and activities (includes SOPs, reports and analysis, training and development plans, etc.)
  • Identify the strengths and opportunities for improvement within each department, to enhance the performance of all the personnel under your charge and, thus, meet the proposed goals together
  • Identify training needs and develop strategies for continuous improvement in conjunction with the leaders of each team
  • Champion a safe work environment by developing, upholding and enforcing the standards established in the Star Group OH&S policy

Education and Experience:

  • Required completed Bachelor Degree in a related field (ie: Agribusiness, Commerce, Food or Environmental Science, Operations Management, etc.)
  • Required minimum three (3) years of operations management experience in a similar industry and size and complexity of organization

This is not a nine to five job! Your availability must be flexible and your attention to address immediate issues and support your team leaders could include calls or call outs at night, on weekends and holidays.
