Position Overview
As a maintenance trainee you’ll participate in on-the-job-learning while assisting our Maintenance Technicians in maintaining and repairing the automated systems, machinery, and equipment in our facility. You’ll follow the direction of the maintenance technicians and collaborate with our operations teams to minimize downtime and support a safe, efficient, and high-performing environment, while maintaining our professional culture.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance on equipment, machinery, and building systems.
- Assist with routine maintenance tasks, including inspections, repairs, and equipment servicing.
- Learn to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and minor plumbing issues and support corrective actions.
- Monitor and maintain compliance within the PSM Program (Process Safety Management)
- Work on a flexible schedule as needed: Including nights, weekends, and holiday shifts
- Follow instructions through standard work orders and perform routine and repetitive tasks completely and accurately.
- Respond to maintenance calls and work orders promptly with a learning mentality and positive attitude.
- Some travel between NewCold and customer sites may be required
Core tasks
- Provide support, as required, to the Maintenance technicians.
- Perform planned preventative maintenance on equipment while minimally impacting normal operations.
- Assist in troubleshooting, repairing and/or replacing components in conveyors, cranes, pneumatic equipment, hydraulic equipment, and other mechanical systems
- Set up and operate machine tools such as milling machine, grinder, drill, etc. to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures, as required
- Operate cutting torch and welding equipment to cut or join metal parts
- Ensure actions are executed in conformance with OHS requirements, and all other company policies to maintain a safe working environment.
- Report, plan and track all maintenance and engineering issues using maintenance software.
- Help create and maintain a culture of Safety First.
- Assist in other warehouse activities as required.
- Maintain a clean and tidy working environment.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong mechanical aptitude with working knowledge of mechanical systems, gears, belts, conveyors, pumps, bearings, hydraulics, 3-phase motors, etc.
- Willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
- Understanding of troubleshooting and problem-solving methods.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Dedicated to being reliable and dependable.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma/GED
- 1-2 years of experience in storage distribution, production, manufacturing, or industrial maintenance environments
Physical Demands
- Good physical condition
- Able to lift/push/pull/carry up to 50 lbs
- Frequent bending/twisting
- Able to stand 10+ hours
- Able to work effectively in a cold freezer environment (-20C)
- Work at heights; Able to climb a 120 ft ladder using safety harness
- Work in oxygen reduced environment; Clean shaven, due to SCBA requirements
- Work in confined spaces
License/Certification
- Driver’s License (Class 5 Required)
