Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Greenhouse Grower to join our team. The Greenhouse Grower is responsible for providing horticultural expertise and guidance to support the propagation, cultivation, and care of plants in a greenhouse environment. Working closely with the Coordinator, this position ensures plants are maintained at optimal health throughout the growing cycle and are prepared for sale during peak seasons.
The Greenhouse Grower develops and implements growing schedules, monitors plant health, and applies best practices to maximize quality and productivity. This role identifies production challenges, implements appropriate corrective actions, and ensures production targets are met according to established quality standards and timelines. The successful candidate is committed to delivering high-quality products and exceptional customer service.
Duties:
- Determine proper techniques, timelines, required pretreatments, appropriate growing media, and/or any other specialized requirements in preparation for planting and/or propagation
- Develop an annual growing schedule to be followed throughout the year
- Assist and advise the Coordinator in the development of a Greenhouse annual budget and manage it effectively throughout the year.
- Advise the Coordinator on: The appropriate irrigation, weeding, fertilizing, sanitation, and pest control on all greenhouse stock takes place, ensuring optimal plant health
- Pest, disease and mortality checks are performed on a regular basis and urgent response is provided immediately as required
- Plant growth and wellbeing is continuously monitored and actively managed to achieve the highest quality standards
- Lead in all aspects of the greenhouses daily production activities, these will include but not be limited to helping on the harvest floor, watering, grading, general plant care etc.
- Assist the Coordinator by ensuring direct service staff, production staff, and volunteers are trained to the horticultural expectations placed on them and seek to improve competence and skillsets
Qualifications:
- Two Year Diploma in Horticulture or Agriculture and minimum of 1 year work experience
- Pesticide Applicator License
- Police Information Check that does not disqualify you from employment
- Computer literacy and proficiency in the use of basic office applications
- Class 5 License and 2-million-dollar liability insurance on personal vehicle
Physical Demands:
- Standing, sitting, crouching, and walking for extended periods of time. Must be able to perform Medium Work as per the WCB definition of physical demands: (exerting up to 22.7 Kg (50 lbs) of force occasionally and/or up to 9.1 kg (20 lbs) of force frequently and/or up to 4.5 kg (10 lbs) force constantly.
- Able to work in Greenhouse environment year-round, tolerating heat during summer months.
Salary:
- Wage range: $25.97- $30.37 (Dependant on education/experience)
